Golden Beaches, Fisherfolk & Victorians
Nairn, known to this day for its golden sandy beaches, was once proclaimed "The Brighton of the North" and is one of the sunniest and driest places in Scotland and the UK. Since Victorian times, people have been enjoying their seaside holidays in Nairn.
Centuries earlier, King James VI boasted that he "had in his kingdom a town with a street so long that the people at each end spoke two different languages". This linguistic divide was also of a professional and cultural nature, the border between two very different worlds.
On our #FIVERFEST walking tour of Nairn, we will explore both of these worlds. You will hear about the tough life of the people in Fishertown and some of Nairn's illustrious and sometimes quite peculiar characters, famous visitors and a place that is even mentioned in the Bible.

Our Town Walks are at a leisurely pace and are suitable for all age groups.
Easy - reasonable fitness level required:
Walking in an urban area, over pavements, paths and rough ground with some muddy patches and a few short slopes.
Our famous Scottish weather has its reputation for a reason. Therefore, it is always good practise to pack an extra layer and a waterproof jacket or coat on top of your sunscreen and your sunglasses. You may need them all.
Please note that we may not be able to take you on tour if your footwear is not suitable.
In such an event, a (partial) refund is entirely at our discretion.
The tour will keep you on your feet for at least 1,5 hours and we highly recommend that you wear appropriate footwear and clothing for this outdoor experience.
We adhere to the latest government and public health guidance to keep you and us safe and we practice social distancing and maintain the highest hygiene standards on our tours. We have committed to the Good to Go scheme launched by Visit Britain that recognises good practise in following COVID-19 guidelines and have adapted the STGA Good To Go Protocol.
