Whisky - Uisge Beatha

"The Water of Life"

Whisky is Scotland's Gift to the world and we have a lot to give!

More than half of our 125+ distilleries have their home in Speyside and in the Highlands.

We are both very keen on the subject and just love opening up this fantastic world of flavours and scents to you.

We visit distilleries, grab a nice bite in a local pub and continue our whisky tour with a visit to the cooperage, a gentle stroll or a few more drams.

Living in Inverness - Past and Present

Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, has the perfect size to be explored on foot. The city has an abundance of historic places and monuments - all just a short stroll away.

We take you round the city and

tell you about its famous and lesser known landmarks, sons and daughters and the life in Inverness then and now.

Our walking tours can be fully customised and we happily add a cake or pub stop en route.

If Trees and Rocks
Could Talk

Scotland’s places have many  stories to tell. Not all of them are obvious at first sight. Once you start looking closer, you can explore a whole new world.

Small watchtowers, ruined crofts and unexpected changes of scenery: Going off the beaten track and getting under the skin of things is something we really enjoy. Many of the less obvious places are a bit harder to get to and the journey to them often involves a gentle walk in the great Scottish Outdoors and
complimentary forest bathing.

Scotland: The Land That Inspired Outlander

Diana Gabaldon’s novels have been inspired by the Jacobite risings and the rich folklore of the Highlands – and so are we.

With places like Culloden Battlefield, the Clava Cairns, Beauly, the stronghold of the Frasers of Lovat, just a stone-throw away, we bring the story of Claire & Jamie to life. What is a ‘Clootie Well’? Where is the ‘Old Fox’ buried?

Grab a gemstone and join us on this outlandish journey back in time.

Kings, Clairvoyants and the Common People

King Macbeth, Mary Queen of Scots, Bonnie Prince Charlie, and Flora Macdonald are some of the most famous people in Scottish History.

Have you ever heard of the Wolf of Badenoch, the Brahan Seer, or the enigmatic Picts, who used to live in these lands too? What did the everyday life of a fishwife or a timmer floater look like?

Hear about their fascinating, often turbulent but romantic lives on our tour.

Great Scenery, Iconic Castles and a Monster

Loch Ness is the largest body of freshwater in Britain and home to a certain mystic beast. Nessie is a bit shy though. Only a few get to see her. Luckily, there is so much more to discover in the Inverness area:

Wonderful castles, ancient places and the fertile Black Isle, where you get to see “Pictish beasts”, more commonly known as dolphins - and these lovely creatures are not shy at all!

Are you ready to explore?

Whisky and much more

Moray is the home of Speyside and has a long and proud history of making whisky legally, and an even longer one of illicit distilling…

The town of Elgin with its ruined cathedral, once known as 'The Lantern of the North' and the flourishing textile industry is definitely worth a visit. And so is the Moray Coast, one of Scotland’s most spectacular jewels, with its picturesque fishing villages.

Surprisingly, this lovely area is often overlooked by visitors. We are on a mission to change that.

Simply Stunning

The last true wild lands in Britain, a varied landscape of rugged mountains, quiet moors and nature reserves like Loch Fleet - a great place for spotting wildlife, just like the Falls of Shin, where salmon are leaping upstream in the summer months.

Dunrobin Castle & Gardens have daily falconry displays and the picturesque villages of Dornoch and Tain are always worth a browse. Whisky? There are a few distilleries here, with Balblair being one of our favourites, not just due to its location…

Times

March until October

Monday - Sunday          from 09.00 h

We tend to start our tours at 09.00 h in the morning. There is a lot of flexibility though. Depending on the starting point and destination or the arrival time of your ship if you are on a cruise, we are happy to start earlier or even a bit later.

Unless specified otherwise, the maximum duration for a tour is set as follows:

Half Day Tours: 4 ½ hours

Full Day Tours: 9 hours

November until February
Monday - Sunday          from 10.00 h

Over winter, our days here in the Highlands are significantly shorter. Some of our main attractions are closed and the same can apply to roads, depending on the weather - which can be quite "entertaining", to say the least.

As a result, our tours are a bit shorter than during summer and may require a change of plan every now and then.

However, the Highlands are a fantastic place for a cozy and romantic winter break. The light is very special and the views on a cold clear day are just amazing. If the clear day is followed by a clear night and the right conditions are met, you may get to see another amazing performance: the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

This is also the time when we take things a bit slower and practise the art of "Coorie" - the Scottish version of "Hygge" by sitting next to the fire, enjoying hearty food, a dram and great company.

Sounds good?
Get in touch and we'll create an adventure just for you!
